WASHINGTON — A high-level Saudi delegation, led by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha, celebrated Saudi scientist Professor Omar Yaghi, the 2025 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, alongside Saudi students at the University of California (UC), Berkeley in the United States.
Alswaha conveyed the Saudi leadership's congratulations to Professor Yaghi for his historic achievement, recognizing his pioneering scientific contributions that have cemented the Kingdom's global research presence. The minister also reviewed Professor Yaghi's work in reticular chemistry and the ongoing research partnership between King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and UC Berkeley.
In his address, Professor Yaghi briefed on his scientific journey and affirmed that the Saudi leadership's support for science and the empowerment by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, were the primary drivers of his success and the nation's progress.
Both Professor Yaghi and Minister Alswaha emphasized their pride in the academic excellence of Saudi students abroad. Alswaha stressed that these accomplishments are a result of the leadership's commitment to empowering national talent and investing in a knowledge-based economy, viewing the students as the vanguard for the Kingdom's future based on creativity and innovation.
