RIYADH — The Ministry of Health stated that cholesterol-lowering drugs, including Statin, are approved both internationally and locally by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). These medications are safe and effective, widely used to prevent heart disease and strokes and to reduce complications in patients with high cholesterol or related chronic conditions.
In a statement, the ministry said that it has come to its notice, in coordination with the General Authority of Media Regulation, the spread of misleading information on social media platforms regarding statin cholesterol-lowering medications. “This misinformation is leading some patients to stop taking their prescriptions without consulting their physicians, posing a direct risk to their health,” it said.
The ministry stressed that no medication should be discontinued or altered without medical supervision. It also underscored the importance of health professionals adhering to medical ethics and avoiding unverified discussions or statements that could create confusion or negatively affect patient safety.
Meanwhile, the General Authority of Media Regulation stressed that it will take, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, legal action against individuals found spreading misleading or unethical medical information to protect public health and promote awareness based on verified information.
