Omar Yaghi: Crown Prince’s support is pivotal in receiving Nobel Prize

RIYADH Eminent Saudi scientist Professor Omar Yaghi, the winner of 2025 Nobel Prize in chemistry, thanked Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for his continuous support of his scientific journey, saying that this played a pivotal role in receiving the Nobel Prize.

He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Saudi leadership for its generous support and care for the research, development, and innovation ecosystem, as well as for scientists and researchers across various scientific fields.

Professor Yaghi extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Crown Prince, who is also chairman of the Supreme Committee for Research, Development, and Innovation, for his continuous support that enabled him to achieve this milestone for Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030. He also thanked the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) for its ongoing support over the past years through the KACST-UC Berkeley Center of Excellence.

Yaghi emphasized that receiving this award is a great honor for him and for all Saudi and Arab scientists worldwide, expressing his hope that this achievement would serve as a motivation and inspiration for the next generation of promising Saudi and Arab youth to continue the path of research and innovation.

Professor Yaghi is one of Saudi Arabia’s leading chemists. He founded reticular chemistry, considered one of the most significant scientific innovations of the 21st century due to its applications in energy, the environment, water desalination, and carbon capture. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for this work, becoming the first Saudi to achieve this historic milestone.
