MAKKAH— Zahid Khan Suhair, an Afghan national, was arrested for harassing women in Makkah.
The arrest was made by the joint operation, carried out by the Makkah Region Police, in coordination with the General Department for Community Security and Combating Human Trafficking. The suspect was referred to the Public Prosecution after taking the necessary legal measures.
Since its establishment on February 13, 2025, the General Department for Community Security and Combating Human Trafficking under the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with regional and provincial police, has launched a large-scale campaign to combat all forms of immoral acts and refer those involved in such crimes to the Public Prosecution.
The Anti-Harassment Law stipulates that anyone who commits the crime of harassment shall be punished by imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years and a fine not exceeding SR100,000, or by one of these two penalties.
Under the law, the penalty is increased to imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years, and a fine not exceeding SR300,000, or either of these two penalties, in the event of a repeat of the offense. Similar will be the penalties in other cases such as committing the offense in a public place, or against a child, or against a person with special needs.
