RIYADH — Emir of Qassim Region Prince Faisal bin Mishaal has ordered the formation of a committee urgently to investigate into the actions taken in the incident of a mistaken corpse mix-up at Al-Rass General Hospital.
The emir has directed the committee to report its findings promptly and hold those found guilty accountable for the wrong swap of bodies so as to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.
The emir emphasized the importance of applying the highest standards of accuracy and accountability in medical and administrative procedures related to the rights of patients and their families.
According to reports, the body of a girl was mistakenly handed over to the kin of a deceased young man at the hospital. The body was then washed and buried without the knowledge of her family. When the girl’s family members reached the hospital to receive the body, they found that it was the wrong body a young man. Subsequently, the family lodged a complaint with the regional authorities.
