Saudi Arabia resumes paragliding sport with new safety and training framework

The Saudi Paragliding Federation announced that Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports, has approved the resumption of paragliding activities in the Kingdom.

The decision comes after completing regulatory requirements and coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the highest safety and discipline standards.

Headquartered in Abha, the federation said the move strengthens Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading destination for aerial sports in line with Vision 2030 goals to diversify and expand the sports sector.

In recent months, authorities developed new regulatory frameworks and safety legislation in cooperation with official agencies and specialized experts, ensuring a safe environment for practitioners and enthusiasts while supporting the sport’s sustainable growth.

The next phase will include advanced training programs, qualification courses, and competitive events for amateurs and professionals.

Saudi Arabia also plans to host international championships and events to exchange knowledge and experiences, while fostering local talent and broadening the community of paragliding enthusiasts.

The federation confirmed it is working to attract international partnerships to support the sport’s development and provide administrative and organizational backing.

It stressed its commitment to enhancing safety standards, training national coaches and athletes, and ensuring a world-class experience for fans of the sport both inside and outside the Kingdom.
