DOHA —
Al Ahli FC saw their eight-match AFC Champions League Elite winning streak snapped on Monday but stretched their unbeaten run to a record-equalling 20 games after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Al Duhail SC in Qatar.

The defending champions fell behind in the 25th minute when Krzysztof Piatek flicked on a goal kick to Adil Boubina, whose shot struck the post before Edmilson Junior pounced on the rebound.

Al Duhail’s evening took a hit seven minutes later when debutant goalkeeper Arthus Desmas suffered a head injury and had to be replaced by Bautista Burke.

The substitute was immediately tested, and on 42 minutes Matheus Goncalves cut inside Youssef Ayman before drilling a low shot past him to equalize.

Burke then handed Al Ahli the lead in first-half stoppage time, gifting possession to Riyad Mahrez with a misplaced pass.

The Algerian forward calmly rolled the ball into an empty net to make it 2-1.

Djamel Belmadi’s side hit back quickly after the restart. Edmilson again provided the spark down the right flank, crossing for Piatek to blast home a header in the 47th minute.

The Polish striker had another golden chance soon after but volleyed over from close range.

Al Ahli pushed for a late winner through Ivan Toney, but Burke redeemed himself with a smart save to preserve the draw.

The result leaves Al Ahli still unbeaten in continental play, but their perfect start to this campaign has ended. For Al Duhail, the point was a deserved reward after a spirited display against the reigning champions.
