Netanyahu apologizes to Qatar over missile strike in Trump-brokered call

September 29, 2025

WASHINGTON — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered an apology to Qatar on Monday during a trilateral phone call hosted by US President Donald Trump, after an Israeli missile strike on Hamas targets in Qatar unintentionally killed a Qatari serviceman.

Netanyahu expressed his “deep regret” for the incident and acknowledged that Israel had violated Qatari sovereignty while targeting Hamas leadership during hostage negotiations.

He pledged that Israel would not conduct such an attack again in the future.

The call, which also included Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, was part of Trump’s effort to put Israeli-Qatari relations back on track after years of tension.

Trump proposed the creation of a trilateral mechanism to enhance coordination, resolve disputes, and prevent future threats, an idea both leaders accepted.

Prime Minister Al Thani welcomed Netanyahu’s assurances and emphasized Qatar’s readiness to continue contributing to regional security and stability.

Netanyahu voiced commitment to the same, underscoring the need for stronger cooperation between their countries.

The leaders also discussed proposals to end the war in Gaza, broader Middle East security, and building greater understanding between nations.

Trump praised both leaders for their willingness to move past grievances, calling their readiness to cooperate “a step toward peace and security for all.” — Agencies
