September 27, 2025

MANILA — The death toll from Tropical Storm Bualoi in the Philippines climbed to 19 as more than 2 million people were affected across multiple regions, officials said Saturday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 19 people have died and 18 were injured in recent tropical cyclones, locally known as Opong, Nando, and Mirasol, according to local media outlet Inquirer.

Authorities reported that 407,914 people have been evacuated to safe locations, while thousands of others remain displaced.

A state of calamity has been declared in 32 cities and municipalities.

Power supply was disrupted in 143 cities and towns, while rough seas left 7,678 passengers stranded in ports, the NDRRMC said.

Heavy rains and strong winds also damaged more than 5,200 homes.

On Friday, Bualoi brought torrential rains and powerful winds to central Philippines and southern Luzon, heightening risks for residents still coping with flooding in Bulacan.

The storm struck just days after Super Typhoon Ragasa battered the country and Taiwan, killing more than 20 people. — Agencies
