JEDDAH — Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané delivered decisive first-half goals as Al Nassr secured a statement 2-0 win over defending champions Al Ittihad in a top-of-the-table Roshn Saudi League showdown on Friday night.
In front of a raucous crowd at Alinma Stadium, Ronaldo extended his scoring streak to four goals in as many matches this season, while Mané fired home a superb volley to put Jorge Jesus’ side firmly in control by halftime.
The opener came after just nine minutes when João Félix broke through midfield and released Kingsley Coman down the right.
The French winger whipped in a cross that Mané met with a thunderous left-footed finish past Predrag Rajković.
Ten minutes before the break, the Senegalese forward turned provider.
Spotting Ronaldo’s sharp run, he clipped in a cross for the captain to power a header into the far corner, his 946th career goal.
From there, Al Nassr showed composure and maturity, closing out the match in “business-like” fashion as Rio Ferdinand, making his commentary debut for broadcaster Thmanyah, described it.
The former Manchester United defender shared a post-match embrace with Ronaldo, later revealing the striker’s response: “One game at a time.”
The victory, Al Nassr’s fourth straight to open the season, put them clear at the top of the table heading into the international break.
With Ronaldo chasing a historic 1,000 career goals and Jesus’ revamped squad blending seamlessly, the Riyadh club look primed for their strongest title push in years.
