RIYADH — Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday performed the funeral prayer for Saudi Arabia’s late Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
The Royal Court announced earlier in the day that Sheikh Abdulaziz, who also served as head of the Council of Senior Scholars, passed away in Riyadh at the age of 82.
The funeral prayer was held after the Asr prayer, with large numbers of officials, scholars, and citizens in attendance.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz ordered that funeral prayers in absentia also be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom.
In a statement, the Royal Court said: “With the passing of Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar who made significant contributions to the service of Islam and Muslims.”
King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed their condolences to the family of the late Grand Mufti, the Saudi people, and the wider Islamic world.
