PHOENIX — An armed man has been arrested at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, where a memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk is set to take place Sunday, after allegedly impersonating a police officer, authorities said.
Joshua Runkles, 42, was taken into custody by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) and charged with carrying a weapon into a prohibited place and impersonating law enforcement, ABC News reported.
DPS said Runkles was stopped after exhibiting “suspicious behavior” and confirmed he is not a law enforcement officer.
He has since been released on bond as an investigation continues into his intent at the venue.
The U.S. Secret Service said agents also confronted the suspect after observing suspicious behavior and discovering he had falsely claimed to be armed law enforcement.
The agency said it is working with local authorities to determine the motive behind his presence at the stadium. — Agencies
