RIYADH — Saudi Arabia welcomed on Wednesday the announcement of Syria on reaching a roadmap to resolve the crisis in the southern Suwayda Governorate. It praised the efforts made by Jordan and the United States in this regard.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its support for all measures undertaken by Syria to achieve security and stability, safeguard its resources and territorial integrity, and advance the building of state institutions and the rule of law in a way that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for a more stable and prosperous country.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani announced on Tuesday a seven-step roadmap to resolve the crisis in the southern city of Suwayda, following talks in Damascus with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, and US Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack.

Addressing a press conference, Shaibani said the plan seeks to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian and medical aid to Suwayda, restore essential services to enable a return to normal life, and deploy local security forces to secure roads and facilitate movement. The roadmap also includes plans to guard main roads and prosecute those who incited deadly sectarian clashes in July.
