GENEVA — Saudi Arabia reaffirmed that Israeli attack on Qatar did not target just one country, but rather constituted an assault on the security of the entire region.
"The aggression also undermines mediation and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the release of hostages, and alleviate the suffering of civilians," said Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Kothaila, Saudi permanent representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva.
He made the remarks while attending an urgent debate on the Israeli aggression against Qatar at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday.
Bin Kothaila emphasized that Israel's actions are no longer isolated violations, but have become systematic behavior based on indiscriminate killing, a crippling blockade, deliberate starvation, and forced displacement, in flagrant violation of international laws and norms.
He reiterated the Kingdom's condemnation in the strongest terms of the sinful and treacherous Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, describing it as just the latest in a long series of crimes committed by Israel.
Bin Kothaila reiterated Saudi Arabia's unwavering support for the State of Qatar and its support for all measures it takes to condemn this blatant attack.
"Respect for the UN Charter, state sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law is not a luxury, but rather a necessity and an obligation," he said.
The Saudi representative emphasized that protecting human rights and dignity is a principle and a priority. "Therefore, serious international action is required to halt this recklessness and hold its perpetrators accountable," he said while underlining the need to avoid double standards and selectivity.
