DOHA — The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Supreme Council directed that the GCC Joint Defense Council convene an urgent meeting in Doha, preceded by a session of the military committee, to assess the current defense posture and sources of threat in light of Israel’s attack on Qatar, and take necessary measures to activate joint defense and deterrence mechanisms.
The extraordinary summit, held Monday under the chairmanship of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, brought together Gulf leaders and GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi to address the attack that targeted residential facilities housing Hamas political leaders engaged in Qatari-led mediation talks.
The strike killed Qatari security officer Badr Saad Mohammed Al-Dosari and endangered civilians, schools, and diplomatic missions in a heavily populated area.
In its closing statement, the Supreme Council strongly condemned the Israeli attack as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law, calling it a dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability.
The leaders reaffirmed that the security of the GCC is indivisible, stressing that any attack on one member state is considered an attack on all, under the bloc’s founding charter and joint defense pact.
The Council expressed full solidarity with Qatar and pledged to mobilize resources to safeguard its stability and sovereignty against threats.
It also warned that Israel’s continued aggression undermines efforts toward a ceasefire in Gaza, hinders the release of hostages, and threatens wider peace initiatives across the region.
GCC leaders urged the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take decisive action to deter Israel’s repeated violations, warning that failure to act would undermine international law and embolden further aggression.
They also called on all nations and organizations to condemn the assault, ensure the protection of civilians, and uphold Qatar’s sovereignty.
The summit praised Qatar’s rapid response through its security services and civil defense, commending their efforts to contain the incident and protect residents.
Leaders further emphasized that the attack represents a direct obstruction of Qatar’s mediation role to end the war in Gaza and ease the suffering of Palestinians.
The GCC reiterated its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, non-interference, and peaceful dispute resolution, while thanking Arab, Islamic, and friendly nations that quickly condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with Qatar.
The Council concluded by urging the global community to confront what it described as Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, including displacement, starvation, and targeting of civilians, aid workers, and journalists.
