RIYADH — Darwin Nunez wasted little time making amends for a disallowed debut strike, scoring his first Saudi Pro League goal in Al Hilal’s 2-2 draw with Al Qadsiah at Kingdom Arena on Saturday night.
The Uruguayan forward, one of the league’s marquee summer arrivals, equalized four minutes into the second half, sliding home Malcom’s low cross to cancel out Christopher Bonsu Baah’s early opener.
The Ghanaian winger, on his RSL debut, struck in the sixth minute after capitalizing on a loose ball to beat Yassine Bono.
Nunez, brought in to spearhead Al Hilal’s title charge after last season’s runner-up finish, looked to have set the champions-elect back on track.
But Al Qadsiah, who finished fourth last term, hit back immediately when Julian Quinones finished a slick move with teammate Nahitan Nandez.
Parity was restored once more in the 73rd minute, Bonsu Baah bringing down Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the area. Ruben Neves stepped up and converted from the spot to secure a point for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Al Khaleej climbed to the top of the early table with a dominant 3-0 win over Al Fayha.
Summer signing Joshua King scored again, while Dimitrious Kourbelis and Paolo Fernandes also found the net.
In Najran, Al Taawoun edged Al Okhdood 3-2 after Musa Barrow’s brace, including the late winner, settled a frantic encounter.
