Saudi Gazette report

MAKKAH — Thousands gathered in Makkah on Friday to bid farewell to Saudi student Mohammed Al-Qassim, who was fatally stabbed last week in Cambridge, United Kingdom, where he was studying.

Mourners performed funeral prayers for the 21-year-old at the Grand Mosque following Friday prayers before his burial at the Al-Shuhada Cemetery.

British police have charged a 21-year-old man from Cambridge with murder in connection with the incident and arrested a second man in his 50s on suspicion of assisting the offender.

The main suspect, identified as Charles Corrigan, appeared before Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, where he denied the charges, claiming self-defense.

The court scheduled a hearing on Sept. 8 to review a motion to reinstate the murder charge before a full trial in February. Bail was denied.
