RIYADH —
Saudi Arabia has expressed strong support for Syria’s sovereignty and unity, while condemning continued Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Kingdom is following recent developments in Syria with concern and welcomes the steps taken by the Syrian government to restore security, civil peace, and the full authority of state institutions across the country.

The Kingdom also denounced what it described as flagrant Israeli violations of international law and the 1974 disengagement agreement, citing repeated Israeli aggression and interference in Syria’s internal affairs.

Saudi Arabia urged the international community to support Syria during this critical period and to take a firm stance against the ongoing attacks.

The condemnation follows a new wave of Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Syria’s Suwayda governorate and the countryside of Daraa in the southwest.

According to Syria’s state news agency SANA, Israeli warplanes launched multiple strikes in Suwayda, a majority-Druze area, without confirming casualty figures.

Israel’s Army Radio reported that a Syrian tank was also struck inside Suwayda city, while further air raids were carried out on the outskirts of Izra in Daraa.

The Israeli military said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered the strikes on Syrian military convoys and vehicles, including tanks and multiple-launch rocket systems, in an attempt to disrupt their movement.

The strikes came just hours after Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra declared a full ceasefire in Suwayda following negotiations with local Druze leaders.

The Syrian army began withdrawing heavy equipment from the area to allow internal security forces to assume responsibility for local policing and law enforcement.

The escalation followed deadly clashes on Monday between armed Bedouin tribal fighters and Druze militias in Suwayda, which left more than 30 dead and nearly 100 injured, according to the Syrian Interior Ministry.
