Kremlin says senior Russian envoy may visit Washington

April 02, 2025

MOSCOW — The Kremlin said Wednesday that a visit by Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special envoy for foreign investment and economic cooperation, to the United States is “possible,” amid reports that he is expected to meet US officials later this week in Washington.

“Yes, I confirm that such a visit is possible. We continue our communication with the Americans through various channels. I cannot tell you anything more specific,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow.

CNN earlier reported that Dmitriev is expected to meet with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to discuss bilateral ties, citing a US official and two informed sources.

Contacts between Washington and Moscow have continued despite tensions, including discussions on ending the war in Ukraine and improving bilateral relations.

Peskov denied any connection between the expected US-Russia contacts and President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia in May.

“There is no consensus yet on the date and time of a possible meeting” between Presidents Trump and Vladimir Putin, he said.

However, he confirmed that the dates and location for a summit between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in May had been finalized.

“The agenda is being worked out. The most active preparations for this summit are underway,” he noted.

In a separate comment, Peskov addressed the US-brokered 30-day moratorium between Russia and Ukraine on attacks targeting energy infrastructure.

He claimed that Kyiv has not abided by the agreement. “The Kyiv regime does not comply with the temporary moratorium and continues to strike our energy infrastructure on a daily basis,” he said, adding that Moscow has informed Washington through diplomatic channels.

“We will continue our work with the Americans, we will patiently convey to them the real state of affairs and Kyiv’s unwillingness to do anything for peace,” Peskov added. — Agencies
