JEDDAH — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Jeddah on Monday, where he is set to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and hold scheduled discussions with US officials as part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Zelenskyy will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stating, "After that, my team will remain in Saudi Arabia to work with our American partners." He reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to pursuing peace.
An unnamed Ukrainian official told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Kyiv plans to propose an air and naval ceasefire during talks with Washington in Saudi Arabia.
"We have a proposal for a ceasefire in the air and at sea, as these options are easier to implement, monitor, and initiate," the official said.
US President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding the upcoming discussions in Jeddah, stating, "I believe we will reach good results in the negotiations."
Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a global mediator in resolving conflicts in an increasingly multipolar world.
In recent weeks, the Kingdom has hosted high-level negotiations between the US and Russia, attended by senior political figures from both sides.
Since the early days of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Saudi Arabia has played a pivotal role in mitigating the crisis through diplomatic engagements led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with the leaders of both nations.
