RIYADH — Saudi universities have secured top positions in the 2024 global ranking of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), which lists the world’s top 100 universities based on patents.
The NAI ranking highlights the critical role of patents in transforming university research into products that drive comprehensive and sustainable development. It also underscores the significance of academic institutions in fostering research and innovation.
The ranking features prestigious global universities and both governmental and non-governmental institutions. Saudi universities made significant strides in patent registration worldwide, with King Faisal University leading the list with 631 patents, surpassing renowned international institutions in this domain.
King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals ranked fifth globally, registering 265 patents, while Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University secured the 15th spot with 141 inventions. King Saud University ranked 64th globally with 56 patents.
Dr. Bassam Al-Bassam, Secretary-General of the Council of University Affairs, emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s educational institutions have become key hubs for scientific research and innovation. He credited this progress to the unwavering support of the country’s leadership, which prioritizes research and innovation as fundamental pillars of national development.
