Saudi Heritage Commission begins documenting ancient stone structures in Hail

HAILThe Saudi Heritage Commission has launched a “Survey and Documentation of Stone Structures” project in Hail region in cooperation with University of Sydney, Australia, with the aim of inventorying, studying and documenting stone structures using the latest scientific techniques.

The project extends over 36 months and includes several stages, including: creating an electronic database, aerial documentation using helicopters and drones, and ground surveying of mountains and valleys.

It’s also include archaeological excavations to test the nature of the selected facilities and analyze them to uncover the secrets of these stone structures.

The Heritage Commission will cooperate with a specialized team of local and international archaeologists and researchers to provide field training to national cadres in surveying and documentation techniques, according to the highest quality standards in field work. They will be trained in the use of modern systems to determine locations (GIS) and create accurate digital maps.

The Commission pointed out that this project was part of a series of projects in the field of inventorying, protecting and developing Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which contributes to shedding light on Kingdom's ancient history and its cultural status, which has formed a bridge linking human cultures throughout the ages.
