Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The General Directorate of Narcotics Control has foiled an attempt to smuggle in more than 11 million drug pills at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam in the Eastern Province. One Saudi citizen and a Jordanian resident were arrested while receiving the huge cache of drugs. According to the directorate, a total of 11,108,998 amphetamine pills were found hidden in a shipment of food supplies that reached the port.
The directorate made the drug bust in a security operation carried out in cooperation with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. This was part of the ongoing security campaign to track down drug smuggling and trafficking networks targeting the Kingdom's security and its youth.
The security authorities called upon citizens and expatriates to report any information they have about any activities related to drug smuggling or trafficking, by calling the numbers 911 in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 in the rest of the Saudi regions. They can also contact the General Directorate of Narcotics Control through its phone number 995 or via email 995@gdnc.gov.sa. The authorities said that all reports will be treated with complete confidentiality.
