ALJOUF —
Roshn Saudi League (RSL) side Al Orobah announced on Saturday the signing of Syrian forward Omar Al Somah from Qatari club Al Arabi, marking the return of the league’s all-time top scorer.

The 35-year-old Al Somah scored a record 144 goals in 180 RSL appearances during an illustrious eight-year tenure at Al Ahli from 2014 to 2022.

His prolific goal-scoring prowess earned him three consecutive RSL Golden Boots between the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons, culminating in leading Al Ahli to their first domestic league title in 32 years in 2015-16.

After Al Ahli’s shock relegation in 2022, Al Somah moved to Qatar, where he joined Al Arabi and guided them to their first Emir Cup title in 30 years.

Al Orobah, competing in the RSL for the first time in a decade, are currently 14th in the standings.

Struggling in front of goal, with just 11 strikes in 14 matches — the league’s second-lowest tally — newly appointed head coach Adnan Hamad is counting on Al Somah’s experience and scoring ability to steer his team clear of the relegation zone.

The move also gives Al Somah a chance to extend his record as the RSL’s all-time leading scorer. Al Shabab’s Moroccan forward Abderrazak Hamdallah is closing in with 134 goals, trailing Al Somah by just 10.
