RIYADH — Saudi Arabia condemned the attack on the residence of the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sudan.

In a statement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation and denunciation of the attack on the residence of the UAE ambassador, saying that this constitutes a violation of international law.

The ministry reaffirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of these violations and all forms of violence against diplomats. He emphasized the need to ensure the protection of diplomats and respect for diplomatic missions' premises in compliance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the ministry statement said.

In a statement on Monday, the UAE’s foreign ministry said extensive damage had been caused to the residence in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The ministry stressed the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and embassy staff residences, in accordance with the treaties and customs that regulate diplomatic relations.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ... will submit a letter of protest to the League of Arab States, the African Union and the United Nations against this attack by the Sudanese Armed Forces, as it represents a flagrant violation of the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises,” the statement said.
