NEW YORK
— Royal Court Advisor and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah emphasized the need for urgent collective action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan during a meeting at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

The meeting, titled "The Cost of Inaction: Urgent and Collective Support to Scale Up the Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region," highlighted the challenges faced by the Sudanese people, with Dr. Al Rabeeah noting that Sudan deserves global support as its citizens work to overcome these difficulties.

Dr. Al Rabeeah stressed Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment, saying, "Recognizing the duty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards Sudan, intensive efforts have been exerted since the beginning of the humanitarian crisis to restore hope to the people."

He highlighted the Jeddah Declaration and the role of the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) Group in providing relief, particularly in Darfur, despite the recent escalation of violence.

Saudi Arabia has provided over $3 billion in support to Sudan, including $132 million in humanitarian aid. KSrelief has implemented more than 70 humanitarian projects since April 2023 at a cost exceeding $73 million in collaboration with UN organizations and humanitarian partners. Dr. Al Rabeeah also outlined the air and sea relief missions funded by government and public donations to address urgent needs.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Al Rabeeah called on the international humanitarian community to transcend political divisions and prioritize providing unrestricted humanitarian aid to conflict-affected areas. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to achieve stability and security for Sudan and its people.
