BAGHDAD — An Iran-backed Iraqi militia group announced drone and missile attacks on “vital targets” in Israel on Sunday.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the strikes but did not provide specific details about the targeted locations.
The group stated it attacked a “vital site” in Israel using drones and also claimed to have launched upgraded cruise missiles at targets in northern Israel, along with another drone strike in the southern region.
They described the attacks as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people and a response to what they termed "massacres perpetrated by the occupation against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly."
Israeli Army Radio reported that three drones launched from Iraq were intercepted, with no injuries or damage reported. According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, these interceptions occurred near the Israel-occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The regional tensions have heightened amid Israel's ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in nearly 41,400 deaths, predominantly among women and children, following a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7 of last year. — Agencies
