Saudi Arabia: A Legacy of Unity, A Future of Transformation

September 18, 2024

Prof. Awad Al-Omari

Saudi Arabia is proud not only of its past but also of its inspiring present and promising future as the Kingdom honors its unity on this National Day. Filled with pride and gratitude, the Saudi people remember the immense sacrifices made by their visionary founder, King Abdulaziz Al Saud, who dedicated his life to uniting every part of the country. His sons, the succeeding leaders, have preserved and enhanced his legacy of unity, security, and prosperity by guiding Saudi Arabia through years of remarkable development.

Under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Kingdom is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. At its core is Vision 2030, a comprehensive framework designed to diversify the economy, empower individuals, and elevate Saudi Arabia as a global leader. The results of this vision are evident throughout the country, transforming what was once a bold aspiration into reality.

The numbers tell a fascinating story. Despite global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, the Saudi economy has grown and remains one of the top performers in the G20.

Housing has seen some of the most significant progress. Homeownership has increased from 47% to 63% since Vision 2030 began, with a target of 70% by 2030. Behind these figures are real stories of families achieving their dream of homeownership, offering stability and pride for future generations. These standards underline a key principle of Vision 2030: putting citizens first in national development.

One of the most remarkable outcomes is the reduction in the unemployment rate. This is not merely a statistic; Saudi Arabia's unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2023 is at a record low of 7.7%, reflecting thousands of young men and women entering the workforce. They are contributing to the nation's growth and building a future for themselves. With a young population, where more than 60% are under 30, the Kingdom is investing heavily in initiatives like the Human Capability Development Program.

The momentum created by Vision 2030 touches every aspect of Saudi Arabia. Sports have gone global, tourism and entertainment are flourishing, and Saudi Arabia is drawing increasing attention on the world stage. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's leadership is inspiring people not only in Saudi Arabia but everywhere. For three consecutive years, he has been named the "Most Influential Arab Leader," a recognition of his visionary leadership, strategic thinking, and relentless efforts to modernize the Kingdom.

The progress of the Kingdom is measured not just in terms of economic growth but in the lives it has touched. Vision 2030 is a transformative tool with ambitious goals of reshaping the economy, uplifting its people, empowering the youth, and ensuring that every Saudi citizen has the opportunity to thrive in an ever-changing world.

On this National Day, the Kingdom celebrates not only its rich history but also a future brimming with potential. Saudi Arabia is set to grow even further under its leadership, boldly stepping into its next chapter while the world watches in admiration as the path of transformation unfolds.

A nation that has always believed in the power of unity, hard work, and unwavering determination, Saudi Arabia’s future looks bright with the pillars of Vision 2030 firmly in place. The best days are still ahead as we continue to move forward.
