Israeli ground forces chief resigns

September 03, 2024

JERUSALEM — Chief of the Israeli army’s Ground Forces, Tamir Yadai, resigned on Tuesday citing “personal reasons,” according to a statement from the military.

The resignation comes after three years of Yadai’s service in the position, although the military did not provide further details.

Israeli Army Radio reported that Yadai is expected to pursue "significant positions" within the army following his resignation. His departure coincides with Israel's continued offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in nearly 40,800 deaths, mostly women and children, and over 94,200 injuries since the Hamas attack on October 7 last year.

Yadai’s resignation also comes at a time when the Israeli army is engaged in frequent cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah in Lebanon, further intensifying the region’s volatility. — Agencies
