TEL AVIV — Flights at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport resumed on Monday following a two-hour suspension amid a nationwide strike led by Israel’s largest labor union, Histadrut.

The strike was called to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to reach an immediate cease-fire and prisoner exchange deal with Palestinians after the bodies of six Israeli hostages were recovered from southern Gaza on Sunday.

During the strike, all landings and departures at the airport were halted, leading the Israeli government to petition the Supreme Court to suspend the strike.

The ongoing conflict has seen more than 100 hostages taken by Hamas, with mediation efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt stalled due to Netanyahu’s refusal to meet Hamas’ demands for a cease-fire.

Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed over 40,700 Palestinians, mainly women and children, and injured more than 94,100 others, amid severe shortages of food, water, and medicine.

The International Court of Justice has ordered a halt to military operations in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians have sought refuge, accusing Israel of committing genocide. — Agencies
