Death toll from floods in Yemen’s Al-Hudaydah rises to 84

August 31, 2024

ADEN — The death toll from floods and heavy rains in Yemen’s western Al-Hudaydah province has climbed to 84, with 25 others injured.

According to a statement by the province's emergency committee, reported by the Saba News Agency, the floods have severely impacted the region since the beginning of August, flooding hundreds of homes, damaging infrastructure and agricultural lands, and washing away several roads.

The floods reached the northern entry point of Al-Hudaydah city, exacerbating the damage in an area already struggling with infrastructure challenges.

Flash floods triggered by seasonal rains have claimed dozens of lives and affected over 250,000 displaced people in Yemen since July, according to UN data.

The ongoing conflict between the Yemeni government and Houthi forces has severely damaged the country’s infrastructure and health facilities, contributing to a catastrophic humanitarian situation in Yemen. — Agencies
