Hezbollah escalates attacks on military sites in northern Israel

August 11, 2024

BEIRUT — Lebanese group Hezbollah launched attacks on several military sites in northern Israel on Sunday amid rising tensions between the two sides.

Hezbollah reported that its fighters targeted the Marj site with "appropriate weapons," resulting in a direct hit. The group also fired missiles at the Barakat Risha and al-Raheb posts, stating that these attacks were carried out "in support of the steadfast Palestinian people and their resistance."

There has been no immediate response from the Israeli army regarding the attacks.

Concerns are mounting about the potential for a full-blown war between Israel and Hezbollah, following months of cross-border exchanges of fire. Tensions have been particularly high since Hezbollah threatened military retaliation after the assassination of its top commander, Fouad Shukr, in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30.

This latest escalation comes as Israel continues its military operations against the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in nearly 39,800 deaths since last October, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. — Agencies
