CANBERRA — The Australian government announced a compensation plan on Saturday to pay those who were "killed or abused" by its special forces in Afghanistan.
ABC News reported that the plan stems from the recommendations of the 2020 "Brereton Report," which found Australian Defense Force personnel were involved in serious crimes, including the "murder" of 39 prisoners and civilians between 2005 and 2016.
A Defense Department spokesperson stated that the government is committed to fully implementing the "Brereton Report" recommendations, including compensation.
