JEDDAH — The Saudi Council of Health Insurance (CHI) emphasized that it is working with other parties to integrate the efforts made in order to reach the desired health, social and economic goals, saying that the most prominent of which are achieving comprehensive healthcare, ensuring the sustainability of health coverage, and reducing the burden on government hospitals.

It is also motivating insurance companies and health service providers to make available new products, in addition to increasing job opportunities in all medical and non-medical specialties, and reducing the rate of recruitment without a necessity.

The Council emphasized that the approval of the Council of Ministers last year to provide health insurance coverage for four or more domestic workers and the like is an extension of a series of wise decisions supporting the achievement of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, by enhancing public health and contributing to achieving a vibrant society. Last March, the Council of Ministers approved providing health insurance coverage to domestic workers. The healthcare coverage will apply if a household employs four or more domestic workers.

The council noted that the generous approval has a profound impact on enabling beneficiaries to obtain their full rights to the care and protection with the highest levels of quality and efficiency, which contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC), while enabling all members of society to receive the health services that they are required without suffering financially. The SDGs call for action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice and prosperity.

The council stated that the decision contributes to the governance and regulation of private health insurance for domestic workers, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of health services provided to them, and enabling stakeholders to achieve justice, transparency, and excellence in their performance.
