Special Olympics

Majed Garoub

It is one of the most important sports institutions in the world.

For a very simple reason, which is that the federation is a combination of the powers and tasks of the Ministries of Sports, Health, Education and Social Affairs.

The united powers and competencies of all these bodies are devoted to a specific group of society, namely those with special needs and mental disabilities.

Internationally, the Kennedy family took the initiative to establish this union and transform it over time into a global demonstration.

Locally in Saudi Arabia, great interest is being generated in this federation, which has the Honorary Presidency of Princess Reema Bint Bandar, the Saudi ambassador of the United States of America, and the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the Board of Directors is Dr. Maha Ahmed Juffali, her deputy, Rana Bint Jameel Taibah, and the rest of the esteemed members.

And a number of those interested and specialized, as well as stakeholders, in accordance with the Special Olympics Federation law, which imposes conditions specific to those who may or are entitled to nominate and win the position is a responsibility, well placed on this federation and the affiliated players to support and interact with it.

As a participating guest with the Saudi delegation to the Special Olympics in Berlin, I spent the most beautiful days of my professional life with the players, management, and some members of the Board of Directors, in great cohesion and with unprecedented support from the Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sports for All, Prince Khaled Bin Alwaleed Bin Talal, Saudi Ambassador to Germany, Prince Abdullah bin Khalid bin Sultan, Prince Fahd Bin Jalawi, vice president of the Olympic Committee, and Professor Adwaa Al-Arifi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports.

All of which led to an important and unparalled sporting success for the Saudi delegation in Berlin, with the participation of a delegation consisting of 130 athletes in 15 sports for the first time, achieving 25 medals, it is the largest delegation in history, which necessitates intensifying efforts to support this federation, especially from the perspective of social responsibility.
