Saudi Arabia summons Danish envoy over Qur'an desecration

RIYADH — The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called in the Charge D'Affaires of the Denmark Embassy in Riyadh on Thursday and handed her a protest note over the recent burning of a copy of the Holy Qur'an in Copenhagen.

The Danish envoy was told that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia categorically rejected all acts that could foment hatred among people of different religions, according to a statement from the Saudi ministry.

The Kingdom urges the Danish authorities to halt such heinous acts that run counter to religious teachings and international norms. An extremist group staged a demonstration in front of the Iraq Embassy in Copenhagen on Friday and burned a copy of the Holy Qur'an drawing outcry from across the Muslim world. — SG
