MAKKAH — A surgical team at King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) in Makkah has successfully restored the sight of an Iranian pilgrim who had come to perform the Hajj rituals this year.

The forty-year-old pilgrim was facing multiple vision-related issues including retinal detachment, unilateral high myopia, cataracts, retinal atrophy, and uveitis.

The surgical procedure, which lasted for two and a half hours, involved the removal of the cataract, implantation of an intraocular lens, and treatment of the retina using silicone oil.

These interventions proved effective in enabling the patient to regain their vision. Once fully recovered, the pilgrim will be able to participate in the Hajj rituals.

The ability of KAMC to carry out such complex medical procedures for retinal detachment regularly can be attributed to its exceptional medical expertise and the state-of-the-art equipment provided by the Saudi government for the benefit of its citizens and pilgrims. — SPA
