A truffle trove: Indian brand unveils world’s most expensive chocolates

MUMBAI — Indian Tobacco Company’s chocolate brand Fabelle Exquisite Chocolates, made it to the Guinness World Records for making the world’s most expensive chocolate.

Unveiled in Mumbai on Tuesday, Fabelle’s Trinity — Truffles Extraordinaire, costs a whopping Rs100,000 (SR5,300 and $1413 approximately).

Co-curated by France's Michelin Star Chef Philippe Conticini and Fabelle's Master Chocolatier, Fabelle's 'Trinity — Truffles Extraordinaire' box is priced at approximately Rs4.3 lakh per kg, ITC said in a statement.

"We at Fabelle are extremely happy for setting new benchmarks not just in the Indian luxury chocolate market but also now in the world with achieving the Guinness World Records feat," ITC Chief Operating Officer — Chocolates, Confectionary, Coffee and New Categories — Food Division Anuj Rustagi said.

Fabelle roped in Michelin Star chef Philippe Conticini, to help co-create chocolates for the Indian market.

“After several months of R&D, we have delivered a product, in which India can take pride in and stayed committed in our constant endeavor of being at the forefront of introducing Indian consumers to distinct chocolate experiences,” stated Anuj Rastogi, CEO of ITC Limited’s new categories food division.

The limited edition chocolate comes in a hand-made box, each of which contains 15 truffles and each truffle weighs around 15 grams. The box is only made-to-order to customers have to place their orders in advance.

ITC's chocolate business is only two years old, but has been trying to create a niche for itself as a luxury chocolate brand. — Agencies
