SnapChat doctor violates patient’s confidentiality

A video of a gynecologist talking about one of her patients appeared on SnapChat. Many people viewed it because the story seemed pretty odd and the doctor gained popularity because of it.

The doctor’s first offense was violating the confidentiality of her patient. She talked about her patient in detail, which is wrong because a doctor’s job is to keep a patient’s information private. It should not be made public even though the doctor only mentions the patient’s first name.

Furthermore, in the video the doctor talked about collecting a sample from the patient without her permission. This violates the sixth rule of the rights and duties of a patient. It is the patient’s right to know the full plan of treatment and full details of the diagnosis before any procedure is done.

What was presented in the video was against the ethics of the medical profession and a cheap shot by the doctor in an attempt to gain followers. A successful doctor can be popular and make a name for herself with her professional behavior and ethics without resorting to such methods.

I am sure that the concerned authorities will take action against this doctor, especially as such behavior does not show respect for the confidentiality of patients, which will make people lose trust in doctors. The law should punish people who violate the privacy of others.
