Saving the nation’s print media

Okaz

In the past two years, Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman has contributed a number of national initiatives that have activated different sectors of the national economy. These initiatives involved the selection and financial support of qualified teams of experts that have worked to overcome the challenges facing some economic sectors.

However, little has been done to address the difficult challenges facing the nation’s print media, which is facing an uncertain future and is threatened with closing down. A number of newspapers have announced directly or indirectly that if something is not done soon to address their problems, they may have to cease publication.

The projects and vision of the Crown Prince are the only way to save the print media. Financial support and domestic and foreign investment will revive our newspapers and will cover the cost of printing, paper and the salaries of workers.

The collapse of a newspaper is worse than the collapse of a football club, no matter how popular that club may be. Newspapers are the reflection of the country and the voice of its past, present and future.

Our newspapers have reached an advanced stage with impressive buildings and state-of-the-art printing machines, rather than the rented buildings and machines of the past. However, this has eaten up their budgets. For a while the condition improved a little, but now the complaints are increasing and some newspapers are close to declaring bankruptcy. This means that these newspapers have exhausted their current and even their future options. I, therefore, call upon the Crown Prince to help our print media before it collapses.
