Al-Madina
WE cherish the US as a very close ally and we respect its citizens. Sadly, there are some members in the US Congress who exaggerate in a very bad way and uleash attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
These people claim to be committed to safeguarding human rights but at the same time they spare Israel even of the mildest criticism when the rights of the Palestinian people are blatantly infringed upon in their occupied homeland. Prominent among such people is the US Senator Lindsey Graham, who is one of the biggest supporters of Israel, a fact that he does not hide at all.
Graham staunchly supported Israeli positions that deprived the Palestinians of their basic human rights.
I will cite some of Graham's stands, as obtained from American and Israeli sources. I believe it is important to write about the stands of this US senator and others like him in the US Congress who always attack the Kingdom without any justifications because these attacks are doing great damage to the historical relations between the Kingdom and the United States.
Commenting on the shifting of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem, Graham wrote on his website that it was a historical day for the US and Israel.
He was present at the celebrations in Jerusalem, leading a delegation of members of the US Senators. He said participation in the celebrations was a great honor for him.
Through his statements, he clearly indicated that attending the opening of the Israeli embassy on occupied land in violation of the rights of the Palestinians was a great honor for him. His stand only reflected his disrespect to the rights of millions of Muslims around the world, and not just to the Palestinians.
In a famous statement in Times newspaper on the 16 of December, Graham said Israel made a mistake by signing a weapons deal with the US during the administration of President Barack Obama because it could have wrested more concessions. He also promised to put extra pressure on his government so Israel will get an additional budget outlay of $1.5 billion.
On the 26th of December 2016, CNN published on its website a legislation proposed by Graham to stop supporting the United Nations if it did not withdraw its latest resolution condemning the establishment of Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land, as if these settlements were legitimate anyway.
In a session of the Congress in 2014, the pro-Israel Graham called for a resolution in support of Israel. He wanted the Congress to object to any resolutions calling on Israel to keep restraint while responding to rockets fired at Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian land.
He said America could not tolerate missile attacks on a neighboring country by another country. Strangely, Graham was calling for a halt to sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia at a time when not one but hundreds of Iranian-made missiles were fired at the Kingdom.
I do not know if Graham heard or read about the Afghan prisoner who was arrested in 2002 and died because of torture. It was reported that the CIA had played an important role in making his body disappear. What is weird is Graham was citing the CIA to justify his attacks against Saudi Arabia and his interference in the country's internal affairs.
