People who have spent a few years as doctors and researchers after many years of study want to be in the limelight by holding administrative positions. They think by working in the professions they studied, they cannot come under the media spotlight.

MANY professors in our universities and researchers in our hospitals and scientific centers are people who have spent long years of hard work in the best international institutions. They reached the highest academic levels after a long and arduous journey. This journey started with 12 years in the general education and then several years in the university until they obtained their Master’s and PhDs in fields that are much in demand in our country.

However, people who have spent a few years as doctors and researchers after many years of study want to be in the limelight by holding administrative positions. They think by working in the professions they studied, they cannot come under the media spotlight. They then work hard to get any administrative position in an medical establishment and technically walk away from their real profession and spend most of their time on paperwork and routine administrative matters. Over time they will forget what they had learned and they will no longer be interested in updating their knowledge or get familiar with the latest developments in their field of study and research.

These doctors, who have been successful in their respective fields as surgeons and consultants in heart, kidney or liver diseases, will move on to become administrators, managing the affairs of a medical establishment. This is a great loss for the medical community. The administrative position, which these doctors are after seeking to gain fame, can be filled by someone with a low level of education.

The real fame and glory is in continuing in the medical profession and the scientific journey in research, exploring and following up new developments in the field. The real fame is in participating in scientific and medical seminars and making achievements that will serve the country and the humanity at large.

This is the approach that is sought and maintained by doctors and scientists who do not care about fame because they remain inside their laboratories and research centers away from the media spotlight. The real spotlight is when they make their name in their field of research. People will recommend their names and trust them with their lives. Those who won the Nobel Prize would have never received this prestigious award if they left their professions in search for quick fame in an administrative position because they will be busy advertising for themselves in the media and making pointless press statements.
