Abu Dhabi Art 2017 returned for its ninth edition with a selection of 48 galleries from 18 countries in its Modern, Contemporary, Bidaya and Solo Projects sections this year. Running from 8 -11 November, the fair placed strong emphasis on a public engagement program and hosted artist talks, workshops, performances, art installations and exhibitions. Abu Dhabi Art provides an important sales platform for participating galleries while showcasing unique installations and site-specific works by artists to an audience that has grown from 5000 in 2009, the fair’s first year, to 20,000 last year. Participating Saudi artists this year included Ahmed Mater, Ahmed Angawi, Khalid Zahid, Manal Al Dowayan, Nasser Al Salem, Moath Alofi, Muhannad Shono, Saddek Wasil, and Dana Awartani among others including Saudi art galleries Athr and Hafez from Jeddah.
