NEW DELHI - Days after Bollywood actress Sunny Leone adopted 21-month-old baby girl Nisha from an orphanage in Latur (Maharashtra), the CEO of Child Adoption Resource Agency (CARA), the apex body for adoption, told news agency PTI that Nisha's application was turned down by 11 prospective parents before she finally went home with Sunny and her husband Daniel Weber.

"Without looking at color, background and health status, Sunny Leone happily took the child in adoption," CARA's Lt. Col. Deepak Kumar told PTI. Sunny Leone, who attended the Vogue Beauty Awards in Mumbai on Wednesday, talked about her toddler at the event and said: "Daniel and I are very happy that this little girl chose us."

Sunny and Daniel applied for adoption on CARA's web portal in September last year and they were referred to Nisha on June 21. They accepted Nisha into their lives the following day. "We respect that they didn't try to bend the rules and stood in the queue like all the other parents," added Lt. Col. Kumar. Sunny and Daniel completed the formalities and took Nisha from Latur to a pre-adoption foster care. They are now awaiting a family court's legal order to complete the adaptation-related paperwork. - Agencies
