JAPANESE carmaker Suzuki has revealed that the new 2017 Swift Sport will be officially revealed at the 2017 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. This will be the first public viewing of the new Swift Sport.
Cosmetically speaking, you can differentiate between the regular Swift and Swift Sport by comparing the front fascia of the car. While the overall design remains the same, the Swift Sport features new bigger black honeycomb grille with thick black plastic cladding running across it. The front bumper has also been tweaked to incorporate the new grille.
Suzuki has not revealed any technical specifications of the Swift Sport but we expect it to be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 140bhp and 220Nm of torque. The previous generation of the Swift Sport was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre petrol unit that made 135bhp. Even though displacement is less as compared to before, the new engine makes more power due to turbocharging.
The Swift Sport has never been sold in India before but with the changing times and people warming up to the idea of hot hatches in India, the Swift Sport might just come to India this time around.
Meanwhile, Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki is offering the Alpha variant of the petrol Baleno with an automatic gearbox. Maruti has been slowly increasing the number of automatic variant option for the Baleno, since its launch in India.
The Alpha variant is the fully-specced variant of the Baleno that, with Zeta, Delta and Sigma coming below that, in mentioned manner. Initially when the Baleno was launched in 2015, only the Delta variant was offered with an automatic gearbox.
Recently, Maruti Suzuki introduced the automatic gearbox on the Zeta variant. This was done due to the growing demand of automatic cars in the country, even hatchbacks. With the automatic CVT variant now also available in the Alpha variant, only the base Sigma model of the Baleno misses out on the automatic gearbox.
The Alpha variant with the CVT gearbox of the Baleno has been priced at Rs 8.34 lakh, ex-showroom. Only the petrol Baleno is offered with an automatic gearbox and the diesel is offered only with a five-speed manual gearbox. — SG
