BAGHDAD — Kuwait's prime minister has arrived in Baghdad on an official visit, signaling the improving ties between the two neighbors.

State TV showed Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki greeting Sheik Jaber Al Mubarak Al Sabah on an airport tarmac Wednesday before the two men sat down for talks. Officials later signed a series of agreements aimed at improving bilateral ties in the economic, transportation and other sectors.

Iraq and Kuwait have been making progress in mending ties frayed by Saddam Hussein's invasion in 1990.

The countries last year reached a deal to settle a Saddam-era legal dispute regarding Iraq's national airline, and afterward Kuwait's ruling emir traveled to Baghdad to attend the Arab League summit.

In February, an Iraqi Airways flight landed in Kuwait for the first time since Saddam's invasion. — AP
