HISTORY does repeat itself, or so it seems.  How else are we supposed to understand and interpret the latest events regarding the über-presence of Germany in the European arena, as well as on the global scene?

It was a dramatic and a very telling moment when the all-German final in the European Cup was played recently at the great English stadium Wembley.  Surely it was a moment of pure and great German pride which without a doubt re-emphasizes the obvious: that it is now the time of Germany in Europe.

Europe, the great continent, is clearly being led by Deutschland.  Germany remains the economic giant engine that is driving the entire European market zone, a position that has effectively given Germany a role that it was reluctant to play but has been forced to accept:  The leader of the pack.

This new sense of important confidence can be felt in various areas.  It goes without saying that German goods and services continuously achieve the best marks as far as reputation, quality and market share are concerned, in all levels and sectors.

This fascination with everything German undoubtedly translates  economically as well as culturally.  Berlin is now competing with London, Paris and Rome as a global cultural hub, full of ethnic restaurants, great music and theater to please all tastes and palates.  The world needs a strong, confident and dynamic Germany.  Germany has no imperial ambitions, and, therefore, it will always be a benign influence without causing serious damage or harm.

Europe can learn a lot from this “new” Germany, as can the rest of the world.  The world is deeply in love with German brands: Adidas, Siemens, Lufthansa, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Porsche, Volkswagen, Audi, Hugo Boss, Puma, Escada, Aigner and many more.

Everyone enjoys a great success story achieved against many odds, and in the words of the late US President John F. Kennedy:  “Ich bin ein Berliner!”
