LONDON — Meat: It’s what isn’t for dinner when Florence the shark is hungry.

Yes, the last bastion of the hearty carnivore has fallen, with word from Graham Burrows of the Birmingham National Sea Life Center in England that the 6-foot-long shark has gone “completely veggie.”

Florence came to the center three years ago after an unprecedented out-of-water surgery removed a rusty fish hook from her innards. The experience has turned her stomach against meat completely, and for the sake of her diet Burrows must “hide pieces of fish inside celery sticks, hollowed out cucumbers and between the leaves of lettuce to get her to eat them.” — Agencies
