The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most popular cricket league in India and is the tournament which is currently being played in the subcontinent. It is a 20-20 format of the game. It was founded in 2008 and in the very first year it caught the attention of the people. It is the fifth edition of IPL which is currently being played.
The first three seasons of IPL consisted of eight teams, the next season two teams were added and in the fifth season it was reduced to nine teams. These teams are owned by wealthy individuals, Bollywood stars or big Indian companies. One of the biggest Bollywood stars, Shah Rukh Khan owns a team. Many foreign players are also involved in the IPL.
Many budding Indian cricketers are selected to play in the IPL and it is a great platform for them to show and develop their talent. Many of them have emerged successful and have been given a place on the Indian national cricket team.
The players are bought through auctions which are held after every season. Overall the Indian Premier League is a great means of entertainment and is watched and enjoyed with full enthusiasm by cricket fans.
