On Mother’s Day

On Mother’s Day fond memories of my childhood came rushing to me. Mother’s Day is celebrated to honor all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. “A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” Most countries celebrate Mother’s Day, which came into being due to the efforts made by Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis. The law for having a day dedicated as Mother’s Day was signed by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. Since then people across the world have been celebrating Mother’s Day with joy and devotion. Mothers are mothers whether they are ancient or modern, although their roles do vary with the changing times. Their priority is their children and the intrinsic motherly care is the same across the world. I remember my grandmother who had nine children. She ensured that they had the best education even though the family faced difficult times.
All of them were inculcated with sterling moral values, had a positive outlook, were content and had a great sense of humor. A mother can impart these qualities to her children, which no outside education can provide. This unique and solid bond should make us remember our mothers not merely on Mother’s Day but every day as long as we live. Universally, the mother is the shock absorber for all conflicting emotions that arise among family members. She provides the solutions as well. This trait is unique to her. Youngsters must try to understand such virtues to make Mother’s Day more meaningful. Most great people owe their success to their dear mothers who played a huge role in sculpting their attitudes. How foolish we are not to realize that mothers are like birds who keep their young under their wings, protecting and nurturing them always till they die.
